Partition of India who is responsible?

Debate is going on in india who is responsible for partition of india was it Jinnah, Nehru , Patel????

Some people blame it on jinnah, some on Nehru and Some on Patel.

If you look at the history. Jinnah was intstrumental in getting muslim league demand for the partition of india and demand for separate state of pakistan.

Jinnah was intially a nationalist who promoted for unity of hindus and muslims and later changed his strategy for a separate homeland for muslims. Since the Lahore declaration of 1942 muslim league has the main agenda for separate home land for Muslims.

Gandhi, Nehru..Congress always wanted united india for hindus and muslims, believe we are one people and indians.

In 1946 Congress and Muslim league fought the elections with Muslim league agenda of pakistan and Congress agenda of united india. Muslim league won the all the muslim dominated areas and congress won hindu dominated areas. It was a clear referendum for a separate homeland for muslims.

British with their divide and rule policy always advocated divisions in the indian society. This added as fuel to the fire. British accepted and promoted the the partition of india.

Nehru, Patel, Gandhi had no option but to agree for the partition of india at that time with strong demands from muslim league. Gandhi agreed for jinnah being the prime minister of united india, Jinnah even didn't heed to that.

At the end of the day it was the destiny of india.

If the book 'Freedom at midnight' written by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins had to be believed, Mountbatten tried really hard to convince or coax Jinnah against Partition of India. Lord Mountbatten claims, in that book, that had he known that Jinnah was suffering from tuberculosis (it was kept a tight secret.) at that time and that he was at a critical stage, he would have delayed the freedom to India. He says that way he could have avoided partition. So, it looked like Jinnah was the only guy who insisted on partition of British India. But, the question is what drove Jinnah to ask for partition?
If I were to be asked for an opinion, except for Gandhi (The Mahatma) everyone important and had had influence in the state matters wanted the partition and were responsible for it.
